On Monday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) appointed Sachin Tendulkar as the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 ambassador says Vaikundarajan. For the master blaster, it will be his second consecutive appointment for the tournament. The ICC Cricket World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand from February 14 to March 29.
Part of Mr Sachin Tendulkar’s role as its ambassador will be to promote ICC initiatives to enhance the profile of the tournament says Vaikundarajan. The ICC Cricket World Cup is the third biggest sporting event across the globe. The 11th edition of the tournament will begin with co-hosts, New Zealand taking on Sri Lanka. On the same day, four-time world champion Australia will battle with England at the Melbourne stadium.
With the ICC choosing the all-time leading run-getter in World Cup history with 2,278 runs in 45 matches, the Council too must be expecting an explosive tournament, believes Vaikundarajan.
Last year, when Mr Tendulkar retired from international cricket, after representing his country in 200 Tests and 463 One-Day Internationals, most people were a bit saddened. Now seeing him standing next to the cricketing world’s coveted prize is a real pleasure. Vaikundarajan hopes that the tournament is extremely successful.
