Directed by Bijoy Nambiar, Wazir is the first Bollywood release of 2016. “The movie has been written by seasoned scriptwriter Vidhu Vinod Chopra. With a star cast of Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akthar, the movie has been long awaited,” says Vaikundarajan.
The movie will be released on 8th January and the film trailers have been promising so far. Most certainly, movie goers will be lining up the ticket counter this weekend.
“Farhan and Amitabh form a great onscreen pair and deliver a powerful performance,” adds Vaikundarajan. 2015 for Bollywood has been a year of romantic comedies. It has been a long time since the viewers have been treated to a suspense drama. With Wazir, the suspense drama drought seems to be finally over. About the movie, Vaikundarajan says that it provides an edge of the seat thriller that has been missing from theatres for some time.
Apart from the two leads, Aditi Rao Haidari, Neil Nitin Mukesh and John Abraham also feature in the movie. The dialogues are well written and add to the flavour of the movie.
The songs have not done well, save for a couple of romantic songs. However, the movie’s thrill makes up for the rest. Vaikundarajan believes the movie will do well and might as well be a contender for awards.
The second trailer of the movie ‘Wazir’ starring mega star Amitabh Bachchan and actor Farhan Akhtar was out on Wednesday 3rd June, says Vaikundarajan. The first trailer was powerful and was received well by the audiences. The second trailer adds much more drama, action and is much more powerful.
Farhan plays Daanish Ali, an ATS officer, while Amitabh Bachchan essays the role of Pandit Omkarnath Dhar, a wheelchair-bound chess grandmaster. There are gun shots and chases with glimpses of a beautiful and stunning Hyderabadi actress Aditi Rao Hydari who is also a part of the film, says Vaikundarajan.
We also see Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar’s characters engrossed in chess games, which seems to be a metaphor for mind games of an extremely dangerous nature. The film is directed by Bejoy Nambiar.
The film looks promising and is expected to leave a powerful impact on the audiences and it has been shot extensively in New Delhi, including India Gate and Jama Masjid. Apparently, it was reported that the “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” star has put on around eight kilos to get into the skin of the challenging role he portrays in the film. The film was earlier titled “Do”, but was changed to “Wazir”, says Vaikundarajan
Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra was full of praise for his lead actors saying, “It has been such a privilege to work with Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar. I’m so grateful to them for bringing life to characters that we have spent five years writing.” Also, Actor Amitabh Bachchan who refused to speak much about his role said, “I’m very fortunate to be still getting work at this age and working with the younger generation which is so progressive.”
The film is set for a December 2015 release, says Vaikundarajan.
