Vaikundarajan Expresses Deep Grief Towards The Victims Of The Recent Nepal Earthquake

Earthquake-In-NepalVaikundarajan says, a massive earthquake of 7.9 magnitude on the Richter scale hit large parts of Nepal on Saturday instantly killing more than 1,300 people, quoted the police. Northern India including Delhi felt major tremors for nearly a minute.

A school was damaged in Malda town where 40 children have been injured including 40 people in India, eight in Uttar Pradesh and three in West Bengal. In 80 years the magnitude of 7.9 on the Richter scale was the worst to hit Nepal. Due to the tremors felt at Mount Everest as well as an avalanche has buried a part of the base camp killing and injuring a few mountain climbers.

Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, has been completely devastated with roads splitting open and leaving homes and iconic landmarks in a state of rubble. Helicopters have been circling around the areas of the mountainous country to get a brief of the damage.

People with broken limbs and arms have been rushed at the main hospital in the capital for treatment. The amount of people dead and injured is still not clear.  Rescue operations have already begun and a lot of people have voluntarily come forward to rescue people trapped under debris, homes and buildings.

The Nepal police said that the Dharahara Tower in Kathmandu that was built in the 19th century collapsed instantly trapping at least 200 people. This site has been open to the tourists since 10 years and was a famous tourist place.

It has been said that the toll could be much higher from Saturday’s 7.9magnitude since tremors were felt in neighboring India and China and dozens more people could have been killed.  From Saturday’s count the death toll has risen from 1805 with 4718 injured said a home ministry official on Sunday.

Nepal has urged people to come forward and help the country deal with this devastating tragedy, says Vaikundarajan.
