For an Indian film to get recognition at an International Film Festival is considered a huge moment of pride. Recently, at the ongoing 68th Cannes Film Festival where several movies from around the world were screened an Indian film was screened, says Vaikundarajan.

The two films selected in the Un Certain Regard category to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival this year are “Masaan” and “Chauthi Koot”.

The film “Masaan” was unveiled on Tuesday, 19 May, and the movie received a five-minute-long standing ovation along with great appreciation and compliments from the jury which was a moment of pride, says Vaikundarajan.

Starring Richa Chadha, the movie is an Indo-French co-production produced by Manish Mundra, Macassar Productions, Phantom Films, Sikhya Entertainment, Arte France Cinema and Pathe productions. Debutante director Neeraj Ghaywan, who has assisted Anurag Kashyap in “Gangs of Wasseypur”, talked about “Masaan”, which is set in Varanasi, he revealed during an interview with IBN Live. The movie also stars Sanjay Mishra, Shweta Tripathi and Vicky Kaushal in prominent roles. Written by Ghaywan and Varun Grover, the film has been produced by Anurag’s Phantom Films.

“It is about the people living in small towns in India and their attempt of escaping the conventional mindset, the rigid social structure,” the director said.

“Masaan” revolves around two parallel stories: the first is about a boy from a lower caste, who works at a crematorium (also called Masaan) in Varanasi, falling in love with an upper caste girl; and the other is about an upper caste girl (Richa) and her father (Sanjay Mishra) dealing with a sex scandal, says Vaikundarajan.

The film is set to hit the theatres soon, says Vaikundarajan.

Vaikundarajan On International Nurse Day

International Nurse DayEvery year all around the world on May 12th International Nurse Day is celebrated on the occasion of Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Various activities were conducted by The Manipal College of Nursing (MCON) and Manipal School of Nursing to celebrate International Nurses week.  The theme chosen by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) this year is ‘Nurses: A force for Change: Care Effective, Cost Effective, says Vaikundarajan.

International Nurses Day, gives societies the chance to acknowledge and appreciate the hard work and care that nurses provide to help patients recover. “Even though she was rich, Florence Nightingale wanted to help people. So she trained nurses and introduced modern nursing to make her patients as comfortable as possible. She is my role model and many other nurses around the world,” said Naseera Tabassum, a head nurse at I-Care Clinic in Dubai.

Starting her nursing career 15 years ago, Naseera, 36, from Pakistan, said her passion for nursing stems from her enjoyment of socialising and caring for people. “A good day at work for me is one where I have attended to all my patients, helped them with any pain they are experiencing, taken the blood samples, and finished the paperwork,” said Naseera.

Nurse Irene Noces, 30, from Philippines describes her job as one of the hardest and most rewarding one.  “Being a nurse is one of the toughest and most emotionally draining jobs. But there is also a big reward after each shift because you know you were able to touch people, help treat those who are injured, and provide advice and emotional support to many patients.” Noces who has been working as a nurse for the past eight years feels really happy that one day of the year is dedicated to nurses all around the globe to appreciate their hard work and efforts.

Vaikundarajan respects and wishes nurses all around the world a ‘Happy International Nurse Day’.
